Jonathan Jewell

I’m currently working in a range of industries, a range of disciplines and a range of roles.

I am currently studying towards an MA at the Sofia University, Bulgaria, having chosen to develop my study of philosophy in a range of directions since my MRes Art: Theory and Philosophy.

Specialising in breadth is not something that happens by accident – being a jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none is not the same thing. I see a very dangerous situation, not shared by all cultures across the World, where people seek to defend their own disciplines by putting down visitors and undermining the knowledge and expertise of those from foreign disciplines, to the disbenefit of all.

I think we have so much knowledge that is not making it across the theory-practice gap, even shallow information not being shared between peers let alone throughout organisations and society. We need more people transcending boundaries for real, and we need more people understanding the interface between theory and practice, if we want to continue to be seen as serious as both researchers and educators.
